EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF DEFLAGRATION-TO-DETONATION TRANSITION IN n-HEPTANE/OXYGEN MIXTURES

The results of an experimental study of the process of defl agration-to-detonation transition in lean, stoichiometric, and rich n-heptane/oxygen mixtures at an elevated initial temperature of 105o C are presented. The studies were conducted in a heated detonation tube of circular cross section with an internal diameter of 22 mm for the case of low-power spark initiation of combustion. The dependences of the length and time of defl agration-to-detonation transition on the initial pressure and composition of the mixture were established experimentally. Typical "trace" imprints of detonation waves were obtained under various initial conditions, and the characteristic dimensions of the detonation cell were measured.
